Behind the Buzz - digital and interactive advertising and marketing

Videos 24 March

by Rachel on March 24th, 2008

There’s a bit more action this week than last. Highest in the list last week at 40, pushing my criteria, was a video from Google showing people how to put places in Google Maps.

Next up is a ad for Rollign Rock, as part of their Moonvertising Campaign. This appears to be an attempt by the beer company to get an ad on the moon and they are pushing ads about their failed attempts to date whilst promoting their next attempts. It’s fronted by Ron Stablehorn, their fictional VP of marketing. The Moonvertising site is an example of the usual ‘add you message to our site and tell your friends’ execution, done in a fun way, as each message has a specific lat/long placement. I put mine in the middle of the Sea of Vapors.

Finally, there’s obviously a moon meme going around at the moment, as following closely behind in the charts is Gatorade with Tiger on the Moon. A simple ad about playing golf out there in space.

    Rachel:

    This has already been done!

Richard Quick’s EnviroAd Environmental Advertising Agency put the KFC logo on the moon and offers it as a regular service. You should do a follow up post on how marketers should do their homework before pioneering what’s already been done!

I wouldn’t be surprised if RQ’s stealing away the RR account right now.

I saw a billboard last night which ties into the moonvertising campaign: it said “Watch for the next full moon!” and had a transluscent hemisphere — like a half pingpong ball — illuminated from within (with the Rolling Rock logo, i think) and the URL underneath. I can’t find an image posted online yet.
