Behind the Buzz - digital and interactive advertising and marketing

Video Breakthrough via Orca

by Rachel on June 28th, 2008

I don’t normally write about new developments in digital advertising, either technological or company, unless there is a good product case study included. Most emails just get deleted, there’s an occasional good one I follow up, but most are generated using a list and have no real details so into the bin they go.

Unless that is, I get something that starts

Hi <<First Name>>,

Then later on in the badly formatted email it talks about

Software geniuses out of Silcone Valley

It’s a 7 sentence email, with 5 exclamation marks. It’s full of big phrases, about how viral marketing has gone hi-tech. It’s not a press release with considered and polished turns of phrase, nor is it a personal one letting me know that they have some information that may interest my readers, or be related to a story I’ve written about.

Thirty minutes later, I get the same email, with mistakes corrected and only 2 exclamation marks, with this statement at the top.

CORRECTED MATERIAL BELOW. DISREGARD PREVIOUS MESSAGE. Thanks!

I’m sorry, but it’s too good not to write about it, however I’ll be nice and not link to your client that you’re trying to promote. If only you’d written a better apology, saying how we all make mistakes and please forgive me, instead of shouting orders at me. Orca Communications, please think before you press send and if you make a mistake, that’s fine, just acknowledge it.
