Rap in Ads

by Rachel on February 26th, 2007

There appears to be a glut of ads that are using rap to promote their products - in the strangest of places.

First up we have Turbo Tax, a site that is down right annoying with its sound on opening. Vanilla Ice is there spokes-rapper; you can submit your own to win $25k. They’ve leveraged YouTube for this contest, asking you to upload and vote there; currently there are only 30 or so entries visible. As seems to be usual with these UGC contests, by entering you assign all copyright to Turbo Tax.

Then we have the scary President’s rap from NYLI Honda dealers. No contest, nothing except the video from JibJab, it was played to death over the holiday weekend.
