Publicity Wheel
I got an email from the makers of Publicity Wheel suggesting I take a look at their new offering. It’s a combination of web advertising, link exchange and affiliate marketing as far as I can tell. In essence, you sign up the service and get an ad code to place on your site. About once a week, a site is chosen from registered users and that becomes the site promoted across the network. Every time someone clicks through to the chosen site, you earn Publicity points, with each point giving you an ‘entry’ into the draw to be the next promoted site. They appear to have some way of compensating bias towards big sites, so that everyone can benefit.
There’s no cost involved in this, just join the group. The expectation is that it will drive traffic, the type of traffic that clicks on ads, so giving you an opportunity to earn money if they do click on the other ads on the site. It’s a good way of sharing promotion within categories, like the webrings of old, but how valuable the traffic will be to you, only time will tell. As a traffic driving strategy, I would not count on it, instead I’d focus on great content, generating a regular audience and a search audience and giving them something to return for.
