Ocean Spray Cranberry tour
In time for Thanksgiving, Ocean Spray are taking a cranberry bog across America. Well, at least a big paddling pool full of cranberries and 3 cities, being New York, Chicago and Los Angeles. In each city they set up the pool for a few days, load it up with the floating cranberries and get people to wade in it all day moving the berries around, answering your questions and offering you the chance to sample the berry itself. They’re also giving away recipes booklets and samples of the juice - I’d get there early for the sample as by the time I got there this afternoon they’d only got the low-sugar stuff available. They’ve also got online support for this and will be displaying photos of visitors to the events later in the tour.
They’re pushing this 6 hours a day, for 9 days in total. Far less people will walk by than will see a commercial on TV, but what I saw in the faces of the people stopping was interest. The bog made a big splash of colour, with the reds and the oranges and drew the eye. The team doing the promotion was friendly and seemed very open to asking questions or just posing for photos. The impact of the campaign is therefore much greater, as everyone has a story to tell. I heard quite a few people on their phones talking about it, there were lots of photos being taken, all set to spread the word further. Quietly backed up with an online component, with again a personal interest from the photos that are taken on the day. There’s probably local advertising to push people to the event as well.
