Update: the best UK activity that I can find (for discussion) is at McDonalds Monopoly Site and Forum. You can connect with people playing the game, share tactics and good news when you win. - the game site is at McDonalds.
McDonalds has restarted its Monopoly promotion in the UK. They seem to run it in different countries at different times, like last October in the US. The ad campaign for the promotion was created by Leo Burnett (link to cool but really annoying flash site where I can’t link to relevant pages) and has been running heavily over the last few days. The swap shops have already started, for example here on Yahoo Answers, which very quickly starts discussing the belief that this is all a scam and no-one ever wins. Given the rules and regulations that cover contests like this, it will always be genuine - and you can always write and ask them for the winners. They are advertising this as the richest game yet, with prizes including a house and Minis. Unlike the US game last time, there is no online board for online prizes, everything being done with with the paper board. There is a Monopoly racing game though, quite fun, despite my multiple crashes.
So if you play, good luck and have fun, but remember to increase your exercise a LOT if you eat too much there ;)

There’s 1 prize of £500,000 cash to be won, and to win it you need to collect Park Lane and Mayfair. I can see there’s loads of Park Lanes about and Mayfair is the rare one in that set. I was just wondering, is there just one Mayfair and the person who gets it wins or if there’s more than one out there and only one of the people that find one wins? Yeah but McDonalds workers and thier families can’t participate. Apparently people that are selling the ones such as “Mayfair” and “Liverpool Station” on eBay are actually selling real monopoly game cards but because of the way they’re listed they pass of as the McDonalds ones. So people are getting like £2000 for a full size monopoly game card and people are being seriously scammed out of their money and not realising what they’ve bought till they receive it!

no one would sell mayfair for less than 0.5mil cos that what its worth!! simple as.
there are some smart people selling these fakes, i say smart cos there are some really sad people actually bidding and buying them. the sellers are actually making money out of it.

Hi Rachel, i clicked on the first link thinking it was the official mcdonalds monopoly site, it has a section detailing the rare tokens, but its wrong. It says pentonville rd is the rare token for the £500 shopping spree, but its obviously euston road, cos thats the one i didn’t get on my first visit to mcdonalds. If i hadn’t looked into it further i probably would have spent alot of money and gotten real fat trying to that set thinking i already had the winning token.

the previous times this promotion has run, different tokens have been the “rare” ones. in 2006 park lane was the rare one and mayfair the common..
the info on the site is probably a cut/paste from a previous year.

From a legal perspective, McDonalds have to ensure that all the prizes can be won. So the game pieces will be put out there - it they are claimed is a different matter because things can get lost (if people fail to claim multi-million pound lottery prizes, then one simple token can get lost)
Let’s suppose every single prize that McDonalds put out there was claimed (unlikely, but let’s pretend). Even if they had to pay out everything they would still make a profit on this. And this is a profit over and above what they are paying in printing and distribution and management and agencies and lawyers and all the other stuff they have to pay out.
This is a programme that has run across multiple countries and many years. If it did not have a positive return on investment, ie make them money, they WOULD NOT DO IT. Once is OK as a loss leader if it raises profile and brand awareness, but not as often as they have done it.
On the other hand, if they were found to be cheating (and there was a case of this a lot of years ago in the US), the damage it could do to the brand, to the perception of all the people who are playing the game, is far worse. They’re not a small company - this is a global behemoth.
So legally and from a business perspective, they have to play this straight - if they did not, they would be sued all over the place in the UK.
So my opinion - they play it straight.

THIS IS ALL A SCAM… there is no complete set i believe and ppl who claim to have mayfair are liars and ppl who are selling them for less than 500k are bigger liars….. i have been trying to find mayfair since 06 and still had no luck… i live in london and i realise that every year i get the same ones and im always missing things like mayfair bond street conventry street strand and so forth… so i repeat scam.. i am however partisipating in this (of course who wouldnt..) but i think that mcd’s should be responsible for all the xtra weight i’m putting on.. (LOL) i have doubles of almost everything and i have about 10 park lanes……. i would gladly spilt the money if the choice ever came but like i said i doubt it… i sometimes wonder if they actually printed mayfair……. i personally want the mini…. and just my luck to get 100pound off thomas cook holiday after booking one… will it still work??

I dont eat Mcdonalds as a rule, but recently in a moment of madness and in desperate need of food brought a Mc Donalds - whilst eating I noticed the Monopoly game strips on the side and immediately thought of Rach’s web site and the McDonalds Monopoly - taking over the world in everyone’s desperate bid to win.
Do not know whether they popular or not but I have Pall Mall and fenchurch st station, if no-one wants them they are about to go in the bin as I will not be going to the golden archers in the very near future and stand no chance of collecting anymore.

100 collect to wins means that there are 100 rare property in that set eg, there will be 100 strands so if you collect strand, fleet street and trafalgar you have ‘collected’ the properties for that prize.
150 instant wins means there are 150 stickers out there that just say ‘Instant Win, Thomas Cook holiday’ so you dont have to collect the properties as you have an ‘instant win’
bond street IS the rare one so if you have two charley, pne must be fake as there is only one bond street out there, as there is only one ‘collect to win’ and no instant win. go get yourself a £250k house. i have oxford street and regent street if you want them to complete your set?

If you look at the rules, it tells you how many prize sets there are.
So there is one set each of the 500k and the house. From the sounds of it Mayfair and Bond Street are the rare ones and there are plenty of the others out there. There will be ONE of each out there, that’s it, so the likelihood of anyone on here really having one is pretty low, if it is so easy to get the others, then why aren’t they?

There will clearly be more than one of each rare property as they have to give away all prizes! Some packaging and stickers will get lost and/or damaged in transport, and plenty of people just throw them away because they don’t even think to look at the vouchers. Therefore they will have to print more than one.

Hey, I got coventry street this morning on a cup of coffee, just spent almost £65 on fries to get leicester square and picadilly, I dont think its a scam i just think you have to be very lucky to find the rare tickets!
