Grand National Betting Email
Last year I had a small bet on the Grand National before proceeding to watch it over Slingbox whilst in my US apartment. I used internet betting for the first time, a simple, easy thing to do.
This morning, I saw that William Hill had sent me a mail, asking me if I was going to bet again. This is the only email I’ve had from them all year and I think it’s a good one.
- It’s timely. The National is tomorrow, so plenty of time for me to look it up and decide my bet.
- It’s relevant. The National is one of those weird sporting events that cause people who never ever bet to go and place one. It’s a cultural milestone in the year. As I never used my account after setting up it up the first time, I’ve been segmented as one of these once a year betters, so this is completely relevant.
- It’s useful. It’s got my username, my account number, a prominent link to the Forgot Password page. It’s a friendly email, depsite the warnings about responsible gambling..
Overall. this is a win for email marketing. I’ve never been in a betting shop and would probably feel uncomfortable doing so, but here, I am more than likely to place a bet with William Hill. Now, where’s that form guide

So - did you take that bet and did you win - as a normal non gambler I also placed a bet but used the conventional method of going to the bookies I came up trumps at 16-1 - but only thanks to my two year old who picked it by pointing to it!!!! I think next time I may try the internet -saves the embarressment of not knowing what you are doing…

No, I was on an unsecure wifi connection for most of the day and not near a bookies - and transport issues meant I did not get home in time to place it - in fact I saw the re-run of the race not the original broadcast. Glad you won though1
