Frozen Pea Fund

by Rachel on December 21st, 2007

A simple idea that spreads. Susan Reynolds discovered she had breast cancer and used frozen peas to reduce swelling caused by the initial biopsy. Today, she’s having a mastectomy. To support her, friends have been turning their Twitter avatars into pea related images and have also set up the Frozen Pea Fund with donations to the American Cancer Society (you can always donate to your own country’s charities instead). Community action at its best, activity that is also making the mainstream media, with the Tech Crunch article appearing on the BBC. Interestingly, David from American Cancer Society has posted in the comments on that post, demonstrating that that organisation is keeping an eye on what is being said about them and joining in the conversation.
