David Gray on Facebook
Facebook is definitely one of the hot areas for development of apps over the last 6 months and their use has moved out of the ‘developer’ community to the business community, using apps to promote product and services. THe platform has an inherently viral structure, as it is easy to see what your friends are getting in to and do the same. It has both an active component (when you tell your friends) and a passive component (when they see what you have beeing doing) so the spread of content has an added boost more than just putting it out there and seeding via email.
The latest artist to use Facebook is David Gray, who has an album and tour to promote. Add the David Gray application (FB account needed) and you have the chance to win tickets to see him New York and to watch a documentary.
One thing that this demonstrates to me is the inability to see what an app does before I load it up. Given that by doing so, the app has access to all my details without me opting-in to the choice, it’s default through loading it, I’m always careful - so I never looked at this one! However, the makers have tried to let you know what is going on:
On your profile page you will then see the application, within which you can listen to the new single ‘You’re The World To Me’ and sample the whole album, see a selection of David Gray videos, and win tickets to see David Gray live in New York (flights and accommodation included) by forwarding the application on to 6 of your facebook friends. You can enter more than once - you get 1 entry for every 6 different friends you send it on to, upto a maximum of 3 entries per day.
When you enter the competition, you will also get access to watch an exclusive 20 minute documentary featuring David discussing the album
Notice the call to action - send it one and get more entries.
