Cost of Advertising

by Rachel on November 5th, 2007

Via Gothamist, they point to a video from Good Magazine which looks a the cost of advertising in New York City. Watch the video or just read the costs below.

All costs are per month unless otherwise listed.

  • Poster above a subway entrance: $3k
  • Posters in subway station, covering about 200 stations: $40k
  • Posters in a subway car, coving about 25% of car: $44k
  • Digital displays on top of about 100 cabs: $45k
  • Poster on the side of a bus: $500
  • Poster on a bus shelter: $1000-5000
  • Banner flown by plane: $1000 per flight
  • Banner on lamppost: $360 per banner
  • Wrapper on Starbucks coffee: 12-14c each
  • Tall Wall poster on building: $20-100k
  • Electronic billboard in Times Square: $175k

So you balance budget and reach and frequency and demographics and decide what you need to do. The Times Square display may not be the most efficient but it makes a great statement. On the other hand, I want more brands to buy bus side ads, so the inventory can turn over far quicker and we don’t get the old stuff on there please ;)
