Comment Policy

Here’s my comment policy, how it would be nice to behave or reasons why your comment may not appear here. (June 08)

1. If you disagree with something, I’ve no problem you commenting on the post, or about other commenters’ arguments, but please don’t post something nasty about another person.

2. Swearing doesn’t bother me, although it’s far preferable if you only use it with style and wit.

3. Racist, sexist and other -ist language is not welcome and will be removed or not approved in the first place.

4. It’s great if you can introduce yourself, or at least leave a link to your place of web residence - the web’s all about the links!

5. The first time you comment, it will be held in moderation queue, later comments generally get posted right away; unless you post something really spammy that Akismet does not like or a unapprove a comment and then you’re back in the moderation list.

This means that sometimes your comment may not appear for a while. Despite occasional accusations I don’t spend all my time in front of the computer and sometimes even leave it behind. It will get published as soon as I can as long as it’s OK.

6. I use Akismet to catch spam, which is generally pretty good. It does however occasionally give a false positive, so if you’ve posted something and it does not appear, email me. The link is in the side bar.

7. If I think you’re Astroturfing, or just trying to post links in the middle of a genuine comment, I’m likely to either email you to check if you are genuine, remove the links or allow the comment with an editorial suggestion that this is from such and such a company. I don’t mind brands or agencies posting AS long as they identify themselves. Remember that astroturfing is illegal in some countries, such as in the UK where I’m based.

8. Please think very carefully before posting identifiable information. It’s up to you, but unless you already have an a strong online presence, I wouldn’t add any email addresses etc. I’ve had to remove passwords in the past, just don’t be stupid

Where necessary, I will remove email addresses from comments - usually when the commenter is a minor. Adults take their own chances!
