Cherry Chocolate Rain from Dr Pepper
I don’t tend to drink pop (soda) and I definitely don’t drink the diet versions due to the artificial sweeteners but I can appreciate a good ad for them.
A little while ago Tay Zonday had himself an internet hit with a song Chocolate Rain, a song that was originally loaded 7 months ago but caught fire recently, leading to over 11 million views. Someone connected with Dr Pepper, whether in the brand team or one of their agencies, saw the song and saw an opportunity. In a way similar to Mentos (and eventually Coke) they have taken the original hit and put their own spin on it to produce a video promoting the limited edition Diet Cherry Chocolate Dr Pepper. By the look of it, they have worked with Tay to rewrite the song and shoot a new, flashy video. He looks like he is having a lot of fun! Will it work to increase sales and/or to change attitudes? I think it stands a great chance - it’s at least got me considering a taste.
Less than 24 hours after uploading it’s sitting at 200k views and will most likely continue that upward trend. Tay has over 20k subscribers, which is a great seed for a video; my guess is that it has been pushed out to others as well. It’s got that early momentum pushing it to the most watched charts which breeds more viewers. There’s also a fair bit of buzz on Twitter and other networks. Take a look and smile.

cherry chocolate dr pepper? Never saw it I looked for it seems like a myth. Thats the second time the dr pepper marketing team has pissed me off Jaxie Alt head of this band of idiots also thinks its great to put u win on a dr pepper cap them when you try to turn it in to get a free dr pepper you think you won you get humiliated by the store clerk as the tell you you have to reddeem it online. so yo go home pissed off and thirsty jump through thier hoops to claim your prize that you have won and what is it? A free indy screen saver yeah thats right I won a commercial for my pc keep the d@mn thing you marketing pigs.
