Baseball Fallout
Over the last few weeks or so a lot of my friends have been twittering about Boston Red Sox, Baseball and the World Series. I’ve not really got into the sport whilst I;ve been here, even if it is easier to understand than the football the US plays. But the win was a rare event as far as I can see, although it depends on you timescale - 2 wins in 4 years is a lot better than 2 in 90 years.
As a result at least 2 companies are due to payout to fans. The first up is Taco Bell, who offered a free Taco if a base was stolen during the games (I have no idea what that means…). SO if you’re hungry, make your way to the local Taco Bell between 2-5pm on Tuesday 30th Oct. AdAge have a good analysis of how much this promotion may cost them, which is not as much as the advertising they did around it!
The second company may have a bigger issue. The Boston Herald reports on Jordan’s Furniture, is a local Northwest furniture store, who promised buyers who bought certain furniture between March 7th and April 16th rebates, if they signed-up for the deal. Adweek have a a joke email from the store implying that the whole of the marketing department are now fired for their great idea which got 30,000 orders throught he door in the 6 weeks. Luckily, the MD had bought insurance, so it looks like they are covered. Wonder if the insurance covered the time needed to process the mail-in rebates, which includes tax forms if they are over $600? They are saying it could take up to 8 weeks to process.
