Barbie Girl Grows

Barbiegirls.com the virtual world from Mattel, is definitely taking off. According the Brand Week, Mattel are reporting a 6% growth spurt in the last quarter and the world is growing enough to hit the tech big time as well, with a TechCrunch story

So how did Barbie come back into fashion? By embracing current teen trends like online community building via Barbie-Girls.com, launched in April. It currently claims three million members who can create a virtual character that shops and interacts with other users.

That’s a lot of registrations for something that is still in beta testing. It won’t formally launch (in 5 languages) until later in August. The TC comments challenge the numbers, given Alexa rankings (only ever indicative). Getting that many users means signing up 50k a day over the first 2 months; that was before they launched the mp3 player last month which is needed to unlock a lot of the content within the world. To compete-Bratz have also launched a world, but this is only accessible if you buy the player, not free as Barbie currently is.

Whatever the real numbers, there appears to be a thriving online population of young girls trawling the web trying to find ways to unlock the content without purchasing the player. Yahoo Answers have a number of requests; so do any site where they are talking about it. Look at the comments John Swords post or the couple on my previous post - John is braver than I, as I closed comments! They’ve even hit Wikipedia with the requestSome typical requests:

With increasing number of girls looking for the site and for unlock clues, there’s a piece of advice that I hope Mattel takes - get someone to clean up the search results! Using common terms you quickly hit dubious ‘girly’ sites which I’m guessing Mattel will not want their 6-12 yo customers taking a look at. Here’s a need for SEO if ever I’ve seen one - get more bloggers talking about it!

    I have a barbie girl mp3 player, however, I can not go on the site now because the link Mattel sent to my parents for aproval is not working. My mum can not find their number.     Thanks Rachel. I still can not use my user name on the barbiegirls.com. My Mum has called the Mattel UK many times, they never got it sorted. Recently, my mum managed to reply the parental approval link, the screen say:’thanks, your requirment has been processed.”, but I still can not get in. I wonder if anyone else got the same problem as mine.

    i was so mad when i came home to play barbiegirls.com today! i saw that on the b chat you could not chat like we used to, now you can only chat with sentences made by the people who design barbiegirls.com! i dont really like barbiegirlscom anymore… the company of barbiegirls are not going to be o popular any more so i think i bought my mp3 for nothing!

    I have a barbie girl and a be-bratz and they both work.It is only one barbie girl per person so each of the mp3s have a different code.well it is not on the mp3 it is on the barbie girls usb plug thing.the codes are not for unlocking everything on barbie girls.com it is just to unclock a pet and I did not get the panda or the turtle or the penguin when my mum bought mine.you just install your disk then either make a new account or use your old(I used my old one) and then you put in your password, username and code then you login and wola you have unlocked everything at barbie girls.com!as for be-bratz is much simpler.first you plug your usb into your pc(not compatible with mac or vista)then you will have a registartion form then fill it in the click the link and then it will say a link to be-bratz.com and everytime you want to go on it just plug your usb in the click the link.this is what you do if you have a mac or vista(I have vista)use a family or friends pc (with not a mac or vista) and complete the form then go on your computer and type in http://www.be-bratz.com and put your username and password in and there your on be-bratz!add me at barbie girls : pinkygirl909 add me at be-bratz : Vanessa-Anne

    overall I think be-bratz is simpler but barbie girls is better and that is what my mum thinks too.

    I have a brand new Barbie MP3 player. I am trying to enter the secret code from the USB docking station but barbiegirls.com keeps saying it is not a valid code. The code I have is a combination of 20 letters & numbers. I log on to barbiegirls.com using my existing account. I enter my room and then I go to the tab for special code. I enter the code and it says it is not valid. Any suggestions.

    well i just bought my barbie girls today and when i try to register it, n error message keeps popping up when i click submit that says that its unable to contact registration server. when i called mattel they said maybe its busy or u dont have the requirements and rt same here it keeps saying that so annoying so i unistalled barbie girls software and returned barbie girls and i exchange it for a different color of barbie girls. guess what: same problem! few days later=returned it. Buyer beware

    1. Grow Up.
