Avatar Carbon footprint
Do you have an avatar in a virtual world? Second Life or club Penguin or World of Warcraft. Have you ever thought how much electricity it takes to run the servers that power your avatar? Nick Carr did, calculating that an average avatar uses as much electricity as the average Brazilian. As Luiz Barrosa said at the last Google event I attended, energy management is becoming one of the most important problems that engineers need to tackle. Meanwhile, if you have a company that is setting up in a virtual world, or building one yourselves, should you be looking at carbon offsetting?
